Having a multi-purpose stadium might seem to be a good thing. The reality for football is that it does make the play too distant. Using binoculars for athletic events isn’t a bad idea, but for football we like to see the bigger picture.
I agree Trev. Whilst there was no running track, the old Stamford Bridge was similar. Although Baggies lost 3-0 so poor visibility wasn't the worst, however, you were miles from the pitch.
My pet peeve is no standing areas. Never enjoyed footy games since it went seated. Uncomfy seats, no leg room and end up half standing.
You certainly stirred some memories with that one remember being taken to watch Barnet v Pegasus I think in the Amateur cup played at Iffley Road where Roger Bannister ran his 4 minute mile. Still remember all the Barnet player looking so much smaller than at Underhill and we lost 2-0. Thanks for the memory jog and yes you are right one of my pet hates ever since.
