I think that putting the potential health issues aside (as I’m not sure a secure evidence base yet exists to prove the long term effects) the artificial pitch provides for more entertaining, high quality passing football. The surface is true and obviously the other benefits as Trevor suggests, are additional revenue, less cancellations, etc. I think it should be allowed in Leagues One and Two initially, as I think Tracy Crouch’s review recommended.

True Matt, it does still cause an issue for those with knee and ankle problems, if more money perhaps was spent lower down on good pitch renovation and repair chances are some wouldn't suffer so much from waterlogging etc, I know that's not the same for all however and then incomes streams would flow better than needing the 3G surface to produce the money.

I agree but in the absence of money at the top of the game actually being fed to the lower leagues… you can see why Artificial pitches make sense!

There has been an issue with goalkeepers potentially getting lung disease from the fine particles pf rubber kicked up. The keeper gets the closest to the surface more often than other players. I haven’t heard recently of how the research is going in this area.

That's an interesting point Roland to note, I wonder if there is a way to provide a replacement for these particles instead? I hadn't actually heard there was research underway!

I think regardless of anything else, if they are appropriate for Champions League football then they are fine for the EFL and it’s nonsense Sutton had to tear theirs up.

Absolutely Tom, it's crazy the top level can allow it and shows how far the EFL and PL are behind the game.

Think I would be guided to a large extent by the people who have to play on them, I am aware they used to be a lot harder to play on in the past but aware this may have improved.

The surfaces are certainly much better now than back in the early days of playing on them, I can remember when sand particles were used, not sure which is worse, those or the black ones we get now.
