I think it’s a fantastic idea and a great way to keep ex pats in touch with the club they love. I think as much of the money should go to the home club as possible but for smaller clubs where there’s not necessarily the fan base… I wounded if it will be feasible.
Totally agree on the overseas market, the question mark is against the midweek games once the blackout comes in once again, easy to decide not to travel and watch it at home, especially in January or February, it's the loss of every other spend and not just the ticket money that will be the biggest harm to the clubs, hence why you're right the majority of money should be going to the home side.
Thank you for saying a few words on behalf of the ex pats ( I hate that expression ) many of us love our clubs just as much as the regular supporters who can go to live games which from an experience point of view you cannot beat. Keeping up with games via twitter and the National League platform every game is like waiting for you exam results to pop through the letter box but on a weekly basis.
I trust the stream will be better abroad than it was when we were in the EFL and also the admin I could not renew for the second season hard as I tried and the stream was iffy to say the least. Having said this I am now on fiber optics so this should help.
I hate that term too, for want of a better expression!
It's something I think the NL should have had running for a long time, least not since the end of 2020 when it was in it's infancy and last year could have been a fully streamed year.
I tested it out today, liked what I saw and when needs must for me I will be watching, however I don't agree with the financial model of distribution and I hope that it does change for the better.
There’s a lot to like about streaming, however there’s a lot to dislike. The non league game is about getting out to watch live football for a reasonable entrance fee, the bar, the burgers and above all the company and social experience. Streaming offers the overseas fan the game which is good, the home fan an away game without the travel but my bet would be minimal floating viewers. The National League is about supporting a specific club, it’s not big enough to have the millions of floating viewers of the higher leagues, basically it seems some of the ‘bigger’ clubs have put pressure on the league to suit their own end without the forethought to think how a midweek game with two smaller clubs would make the service viable.
The big clubs would be better off badgering the National League to put pressure on the league for a 3 up/down solution which would make it easier for them to gain more wealth.
I agree Rob! I think I have around 11 away grounds in the National League closer to me than getting to The Hive. A season ticket means I'll make as many as I can there, same with those close away games, but some like for example Notts County a week on Tuesday there's no chance of getting time off work so watching on a stream is the only way for me.
Of course once the blackout rule returns in January it's a minimal service for us UK fans, those midweek games are food for thought, for me it's all about the live atmosphere wherever I go to, personal choice it becomes on what is more important.
It’s all a balancing act! Live-streaming is good as there are many who can’t possibly get to a match for many reasons, distance, health, age, timing to name a few. Will attendances drop so much that the clubs will lose out?
Will more people watch and become fans of clubs, eventually attending in person, buying merchandise etc? Premier League teams have good crowds despite their high ticket price and live TV coverage.
You would expect the hardcore to carry on attending, and domestically the 3pm blackout returning in January means that it's confined to Sunday or midweek games so there might not be too much of an issue.
I would hope the international market takes off a little more, especially on the back of Wrexham, that would be a help to all clubs I feel.
I guess it comes down to the personal choice of attending or being an armchair fan for those games you can actually get to.
Glad you are with me on ex pat, also good the stream is working so will give it try bearing in mind Boreham Wood is on BT anyway.
Keep up the good work you have no idea how good it is for me to communicate with you and other Bees fans when I can only make limited visits in person.
