In non-league football you find that the FA Cup still has the romance. By the time the 3rd round proper comes along these days it’s consigned to a lot of understrength teams and those who care not if they make progress.
These qualifying rounds are simply a joy. The unknown for some; the uncomfortable for others. The second round of these pitted Steyning Town, Step 5 in the Southern Combination Premier League at home to Step 2 Maidstone Utd of the National League South.
The hosts had won five from five in the league, the Stones nicely placed at the top end of their table, but would they be able to adapt to the surroundings they don’t find at National League level?
