Spurs off to a flyer!
Now, not often do I blog away from non-league, but as part of my new paid work the Premier League has a place so time for a practise run.
Tottenham are my club, since my late father bought me back home and away shirts from the '81 Cup Final, me just aged 5. Being a Spurs fan you can't be accused of being a glory hunter by any stretch of the imagination!
I've lived through various false dawns at White Hart Lane, the arrival of Christian Gross by tube, the 'man in the mac' (George Gooner Graham), Ossie and Hoddle, two of Tottenham's famous sons both failing to revive the clubs fortunes.
But now the current period under Mauricio Pochettino is the most exciting and promising for years. Much has been made of Spurs being the nearly men in the PL, twice finishing 2nd and once 3rd in a two horse race. What does appear evident is Spurs learn from previous disappointments and then correct it the following season, last season ending the away hoodoo at Chelsea and on Monday night putting to rest a similar away record at Manchester United.
Although Utd are in disarray you can only beat what's in front of you. Spurs clincally put Utd to the sword with two swift goals from Harry Kane and Lucas Moura early in the 2nd half which Utd had no answer to, a third from Moura added to icing on the cake.
Many questioned the fact Spurs made no summer signings, but with Moura and Lamela completeing a full pre-season both are like new signings for Poch.
And with Toby Alderweireld restored to the back four alongside Jan Vertonghen, Spurs looked safe at the heart of the defence.
Much sterner tests will come Tottenham's way over the course of the season, I mean we are only 3 games old, but solid starts can turn in long unbeaten runs and with the move into the fantastic looking New White Hart Lane still to come, you can only look upwards as a Spurs fan, but then we always do, we just don't quite hit the top!
