Reserve team football needs a 2023 comeback
A re-boot for the middle level of the game long forgotten
Here it is then, the final blog before Xmas and the Boxing Day games, before I begin I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, of course there will be blogs in between so plenty to feast your eyes upon when the food gets too much!
This one was inspired by David Gipp on Twitter (@david_gipp), some of you might recognise the name as an ex-pro footballer with Brighton & Hove Albion and turned out a few times for Barnet too and then it followed on a couple of days later on the same platform with Joe Dart (@JoeDart22161245) adding some more ideas.
Reserve team football. Yes, a blast from the past something some of us of a certain age grew up with and some even played in. The Football Combination and the Central League if I remember correctly, covered the country in midweek afternoon football for those coming back from injury and those not currently getting first team football but still able to get ninety minutes under their belts.
