The play-offs. A season’s work over 30 odd league games that can be dismissed almost in the space of 90 minutes. They’re almost like marmite, the love ‘em or hate ‘em relationship.

It’s easy to understand the frustration of sides finishing 5th or lower in the National League placings and being the side to win promotion. Play-off’s though have been with us for years and without them the season for a lot of teams would be over by Christmas.

Maybe they need some tinkering because in reality, the odds are stacked more in favour of a club getting relegated than promoted, it would actually shift the placings down the table if the top two were automatically promoted, but does that make it any better?
