Farewell Substack!
It's time to move on.........
As 2025 comes to a close it’s been time to make a decision that I hope benefits me more as a writer and you as a subscriber or reader. I’ve been on the Substack platform for a few months shy of four years.
In that time I saw fantastic early growth in numbers but being a small writer in a world of many and not a household name it’s been a hard struggle to move things forwards to a point of frustration more than anything else and a non-willingness at times to want to write.
And that isn’t me! I’ve been blogging in total for over seven years, built up a tremendous amount of support and followers in that time but the journey on Substack has to come to an end.
Why, you might think? Well, since I wanted to move to a paying model I was always convinced the monthly and annual subscription model wouldn’t benefit me. To begin with, it worked but as I mentioned above its felt more like a struggle than achieving success.
Maybe because I don’t pigeon-hole myself into a certain section of non-league football people don’t want to read every piece and therefore don’t see the benefit of subscribing for a month or longer,
With that in mind, I’ve had a website built for me over the last couple of months which I hope brings a different model into people’s thinking and provides me with a better return on my time.
When I looked to turn my work into a paying vehicle I actually wanted a site where people could choose to pay for reading each individual article rather than committing to all eight in a month.
My reasoning for that is for that very point above, I put out work across the whole non-league pyramid so why not have a model that allows you the reader to pick what they want to read. In terms for me, I have to ensure that I continue to put out some decent work that is begging to be read and hopefully by more.
It’s a gamble because I don’t know for sure it will 100% work or even work better than what I have now, it’s cost me some money to do it but if you don’t try something different then you get the same results time over.
There will still be the option to subscribe for a month or for the year, and for those of you currently within that bracket your subscription will automatically move over to the new site hopefully with no hitches. You will be asked to log in the very first time you enter the new site, www.footballwriting.co.uk stays as the name.
There will be a second payment option to Stripe with Paypal available too, as much variety as possible I can offer on all aspects of the site I will be looking to do.
Each article will be as per now behind the paywall, the difference being you can unlock an individual piece to read for as little as 75p but more likely to be at the 50p mark.
That lower price actually works out the same as a monthly subscription if you were you read all eight given to the paying subscriber. No one actually loses out here and hopefully I gain more because of it’s individuality rather than following the norm.
The move should occur before we hit 2026 which means that in the meantime to avoid needing to add too much extra to the data file to move over, blogs might be slightly sporadic so please bear with me.
All that remains for me to say is I hope you continue joining me on the journey, share the work around your own social media if you’ve enjoyed reading an article because you the reader are the greatest marketing tool I have and this is how my business grows.

Trev, you deserve massive success for the time and effort you put in, but more importantly the quality of your writing.
I am 100% confident your new site will exceed all your expectations.
Have a great Christmas and writing success in 2026.
Best wishes, Trev.
